    History

One needs to have a brush dipped in history to draw a fine portrait of the glorious past of this district. However this glory has been stigmatized as the sun of free indian was eclipsed in the battle of plassey in this District.Pampered by the river Ganges this District has been rich in education and culture, though the general economical archetype of this District is yet to develop. There are five Sub-divisions in this district namely Berhampore,Jangipur,Kandi,Lalbagh and Domkal. Berhampore being the Sadar Sub-division of this district, situated on the bank of river Bhagirathi,District & Sessions Judge’s Court is situated at Berhampore town and in the every Sub-division there are Civil and Criminal Courts except the Domkal Sub-division where any permanent Court yet to be set up although the process of establishment of few courts in this Sub-division is going on.Being vastly populated area and as well the local people of this district being very much case mongers,a large numbers of Civil and Criminal Cases are pending in this district.
